Nigerian Labour Congress NLC, Benue State Chapter has suspended its industrial action with effect from today.
Consequently,Benue State Government is to pay the striking workers and pensioners Two month’s salary and pension arrears.
This is contained in a communique signed on the side of Labour by the State Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress Godwin Anya,Chairman Trade Union Congress Ordue Tartenger and Chairman Joint Public Service Negotiating Council Philip Nongu.
State Head of Service,Engineer George Ede and the Commissioner for Finance Mr.David Olofu signed the Communique on behalf of the State Government and witnessed by the National Chairman Joint Public Service Negotiating Council Kiri Mohammed,General Secretary Dr.Peter Ozo-Eson and representative of TUC Kelvin Chai.
Reading the Communique to Newsmen at the Benue Peoples House,Makurdi,the National Secretary of NLC, Dr.Ozo-Eson said the State Government had undertaken to source for funds and pay the said arrears between Twelfth and Thirteen of this Month.
According to the Communique,the State Government is to excercise fiscal discipline, control its rising overheads,mop up all areas of leakages as well as be inventive in its internally generated revenue drive to ensure regular payment of salaries and pensions, noting that no worker would be victimised.
The Communique also stated that the Joint Technical Committee had recommended the setting up of a Joint Technical committee at the State level between Organised Labour and the Government for monthly disbursement of the State allocation.
It added that the Joint Technical Committee had equally agreed that both Government and the Unions in the State should continue to work together to ensure improved resource flow and management as well as ensure the completion of work of the Committee currently chaired by the State Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu.
