Col. Yohanna Madaki was born in 1948 and hails from Kachia LGA in Kaduna State. He enlisted as a private in the Nigerian Army after his primary education but by dint of hard work and self-education he progressed to Nigeria Defense Academy Kaduna from where he was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the Army on successful completion of his course.
Col. Madaki saw active service in the war front during the Nigerian civil war and served in various capacities including Colonel General Staff in the second mechanized division, Ibadan. It was from here that he was appointed Governor of Gongola State in 1985.
During his posting in Ibadan, he read for his Law Degree at the University of Ibadan and was called to the Bar in 1985.
He was posted from Gongola State to Benue State as the Military Governor in September 1986. He too has retired from the Army.
