Military Governor, 1993 – 1996
The Military Administrator of Benue State was born to Pa and Vivian Akinyanbola Obademi on March 31, 1951 at Ikaramu in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Young Joshua Obademi spent some of his early life growing up with his maternal grand mother at Agbado-Ekiti during which time he also began primary school at St. Paul’s Primary School in the same town in 1957. He later moved to St. John’s Primary School, Ogbagi Akoko in 1960, from thence to St. Andrew’s Senior Primary School Okene in present day Kogi State in 1964. Before proceeding to the Nigerian Military School Zaria to commence a military career, young Joshua had a brief spell at the African Church Secondary Modern School at Ikare.
After another brief stop in the Armed Medical Services Unit at Yaba – Lagos, upon graduation from the Military School in 1969, he moved on to the Nigeria Defence Academy Kaduna. He was commissioned a pilot officer with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in 1972.
His professional training as an armaments specialist has between 1972 – 1989, taken him variously to the Royal Airforce College, Cranwell UK, Czechoslovakia, USSR (Russia) and Command and Staff College, Jaji for both his junior and senior divisions.
Group Captain Joshua Obademi served variously as officer commanding Armament Squadron, Central Logistics Wing, Lagos, between July 1976 and March 1978; OC Armament Sub-Depot, NAF Station, Kaduna (1981 – 1982). Staff Officer (Works) Nigeria Airforce (NAF) Headquarters, Lagos (1983 – 1985) and as Staff Officer (Armament) NAF Hqtrs. Lagos, 1985 – 1987. He also served as Commander, Central Armament Depot, NAF Base, Makurdi between 1987 – 1990; Director of Armament, NAF Headquarters Lagos, April 1990 – 1993. He was posted to the Defence Industries Corporation (DIC) Kaduna, where he served as Director of Production between January – October, 1993. He was posted back to NAF Headquarters Lagos as Director of Armament in October, 1993 from where he was appointed Military Administrator of Benue State on December 9, 1993.
Group Captain Joshua Obademi is married to Grace Obademi and they have children. The administrator loves the game of squash.
