Mr. Anthony Tyavnongo Shawon was born on 15th November, 1957 at Kaseyo in Uvir Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area.
He began early education at St. John’s Primary School, Gboko, 1967-1971 where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate (FLSC) in 1971; and proceeded to Government Teachers College Idah, 1976-1979 where he bagged the Grade II Teachers Certificate in 1979. Thereafter, he attended the College of Education, Katsina-Ala, 1981-1983 and received the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1983.
At the University of Jos, 1991-1994, Mr. Shawon read and obtained B.Sc in Political Science after which he also attended the Benue State University, 2000-2002 where he obtained M.Sc. Public Administration2002.
His working experience has taken him through the Education and Justice Ministries, as well as the Local Government system.
He began work in 1979 as an Assistant Education Officer II with the Makurdi Local Government and rose to become Senior Education Assistant with the State Ministry of Education, Makurdi, 1989; and Principal Education Officer I at Government Secondary School, Ihugh, 1995. Mr. Shawon was Senior Personnel Officer with the Benue State Judiciary, 1995; Deputy Director, Administration, High Court of Justice, Makurdi, 2010; and Director Planning, Research and Statistics at the same place. He retired from service in 2014.
Before retirement, he attended several professional conferences and workshops during his working career. These included the Advanced Management Course at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Lagos, 2006; Workshop on Judicial Administration at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja, 2006; and Workshop on Ethics, Management Skills and Information Technology at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja, 2012.
He joined partisan politics as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2014 after retirement from service but switched over to All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015.
Mr. Shawon who is married enjoys badminton, volleyball and reading as hobbies.
