A Joint Technical Committee has been constituted to look into the overbloated wage bill and other issues relating to payment of salaries in the State.
The Committee is made of Officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and those from the State Government.
Governor Samuel Ortom announced this Monday during an interview with Newsmen shortly after meeting with National and State Officials of NLC, held at the Benue Peoples House,Makurdi.
Governor Ortom said his government and the Organised Labour had agreed on offers to be made during their meeting and expressed hope that both Officials would tap from their expertise in order to come out with the best ways of resolving the industrial dispute.
He restated earlier position of his government to prune the State wage bill to sustainable level but do it in the manner that no Civil Servant would be victimised in conjunction with the NLC.
The Governor who thanked the National Officials of NLC for taking the path of dialogue this time,also expressed gratitude to Benue Workers for the understanding,stating that it was not deliberate that their salaries were being owed for months.
Also speaking,the National President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba said they have had fruitful discssions with the State Government which they would put before their members for consideration.
Comrade Wabba said the Joint Technical Committee would look into the State wage bill in comparison with records on ground with the view to amicably taking resolutions that could be in the best interest of Labour and the State Government.
