Governor Samuel Ortom has charged Benue people to engage in massive crops farming in next year’s rainy season in order to revive the economy of the state.
He gave the charge today at Ityulen in Guma Local Government Area during a funeral oration at the burial of Mama Roseline Adzuu.
The Governor stated that the need for massive cultivation of the land now that the herdsmen have left the state was to further prevent the federal government from opening up grazing routes in the state as stated recently by the presidency.
He tasked the youth against the consumption of tramadol and other dangerous drugs, stressing that such habits were capable of ruining their future in the society.
Governor Ortom noted that the state government needed the support of the Church and the traditional institution to make the state a better place.
Former Governor Gabriel Suswam solicited support from people of the state for the election of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as President of Nigeria, saying Atiku as Zege Mule U Tiv would protect their interest better.
He also solicited support for the reelection of Governor Ortom and all other PDP candidates in next year’s general elections, stressing that the people should not be selective in their support.
Dr. Suswam charged the Tiv people to send vibrant people as representatives at the National Assembly and not the sleeping type so that they would speak for them especially at this trying moment in the history of their existence.
According to him, the Tiv nation was facing external aggression and strong persons like him and Barr. Orker Jev were needed as representatives to be able to speak out against the invasion of the land and not those that would sell them out to curry favours for selfish interest.
