Governor Samuel Ortom has described the victory of Lobi Stars over Gor Mahia Football Club of Kenya in today’s CAF Champions League encounter in Enugu as a result of hard work, uncommon determination and true professionalism.

The Governor commends the players and management of Lobi Stars for coming from the 1-3 defeat in the first leg to beat the Kenyan champioms by two goals to nil to qualify for the group stage of the competition.

He urges the team to sustain their current momentum and confidence in subsequent matches to be able to win the continent’s biggest club trophy for Nigeria.

Governor Ortom, on behalf of the government and people of Benue State, appreciates football fans in Enugu and neighbouring states for coming out in their numbers to cheer Lobi Stars to victory.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has appointed Mrs Veronica Onyeke as the new Head of Service.

Mrs Onyeke who is from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of the state, was until her elevation, Permanent Secretary, office of the Deputy Governor.

She takes over from Engineer George Ede who is to proceed on retirement.

Mrs Veronica Onyeke has become the first female substantive Head of Service since the creation of Benue State.

Comrade David Ukuma

Governor Samuel Ortom commiserates with the entire media community across the country and Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, particularly the Benue State chapter of the union over the death of its Chairman, Comrade David Ukuma.

The Governor describes Ukuma’s demise as painful, not only to his family and NUJ but also to the state at large.

He says Comrade David Ukuma was a promising leader and versatile broadcaster whose talent and selfless disposition will be dearly missed.

The Governor urges the deceased’s family and his colleagues at Radio Benue as well as NUJ to take solace in the fact that the late state Chairman of the union lived a life worthy of emulation.

Governor Ortom prays God to grant Comrade Ukuma eternal rest and his family the strength to bear the loss.

On the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Governor Samuel Ortom urges Benue people to place the interest of the state above any factor capable of causing disunity and retrogression.

Governor Ortom says Benue has faced a number of obstacles in the areas of security and economy, and what the state needs at this time is renewed commitment among its people to overcome the challenges.

He calls on all political leaders and party supporters in the state to rise above divisive, unedifying and selfish interests as the political season is now underway.

The Governor tasks every Benue man and woman to commit themselves to the sustenance of democracy as well as economic and political stability which are essential for good governance and growth.

He says the safety of lives and property in all parts of the state is the priority of the present administration, stressing the need for the people to support security agents with useful and timely information to enable them apprehend criminal elements and guarantee peace.

Governor Ortom once again commends the military for the efforts being made by troops of ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’ to ensure that communities being terrorized in some parts of the state by armed herdsmen are safe for those living in Internally Displaced Persons camps to return to their ancestral homes.

The Governor admonishes Muslims in particular to commit themselves to the Holy Prophet’s injunctions of piety, honesty and charity to the less privileged.

He wishes the people of the state joyful Eid-el-Kabir.

Governor Samuel Ortom has appealed to the Federal Government to rehabilitate the Katsina-Ala bridge as soon as possible.

The Governor has directed the Benue State Ministry of Works, Transport and Energy to liaise with the Federal Director of Works in the state to commence immediate work.

The Governor says though the bridge is a federal project, the State Government will intervene and repair it for the benefit of millions of Benue people who ply the road on a daily basis if it gets approval to do so.

He states that the ongoing rehabilitation of township roads in Makurdi will soon be extended to other towns of the state.

Governor Ortom reassures the people of the state that his administration will continue to address their needs in various sectors of the economy within available resources.

He thanks the people for their appreciation of the ongoing rehabilitation of roads in Makurdi and for drawing the attention of relevant agencies to the challenges confronting the state.

Governor Samuel Ortom says the suspense over his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC will soon be over.
He stated this today in an interview with newsmen at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, on his return from Abuja. The Governor said he plans to consult stakeholders in the state before making public the next move regarding his membership of the ruling party, stressing that he would obey the wishes of Benue people on the matter. He said comments and write-ups alleging that he had made a u-turn were unfounded, saying that his earlier statement regarding a red card remain the same. When asked what he discussed at the meeting with the Peoples Democratic Party leaders in Kwara State earlier this week, Governor Ortom said he travelled to Ilorin for burial. He thanked his numerous supporters within and outside Benue State for the goodwill they have shown him, giving assurance that he would not let them down.
