Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Media and ICT, Mr.Tahav Agerzua, has commended medical personnel for responding swiftly to victims of the recent fuel tanker fire disaster at Gbatse in Ushongo Local Government Area.
He gave the commendation in an interview with Journalists today after visiting the victims at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, as well as health facilities in Ushongo and Adikpo towns.
The Adviser said the personnel accepted the victims in their hospitals without first demanding payment for their services, pointing out that their humanitarian gesture saved many lives.
Mr.Agerzua however expressed shock at the magnitude of the disaster which has so far claimed 13 lives and left 42 persons on admission in various hospitals.
Mr.Agerzua called on public spirited individuals and organizations to rally round the victims who require support in their hour of need.
He commended Governor Samuel Ortom, council chairman, Mr John Moughsha, and the Ter Ushongo, Chief Augustine Kuma, as well as other tender hearted individuals who have visited and assisted the patients in the various hospitals.
The District Head of Mbayegh, Chief Nathaniel Hoyo and his council members conducted the Adviser round hospitals in Ushongo and Adikpo towns.
Chief Hoyo stated that 24 victims were on admission in health facilities in Ushongo town, 17 at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, one at Saint Monica Hospital Adikpo, while 11 bodies have been deposited at Ostra Gum Hospital also in Ushongo.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Ortom for footing the bills for the treatment of the victims who he visited at the Teaching Hospital and appealed to him to extend the gesture to all the affected and also assist families in burying their dead.
