Ortom Urges Mama Boko Haram to Help End Benue Killings

Governor Samuel Ortom has called on Barrister Mrs. Aisha Alkali Wakil, popularly known as Mama Boko Haram, to use her expertise and prevail on militia herdsmen to stop attacks on Benue communities.

He spoke yesterday at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi during his investiture and that of his wife as Patron and Matron, Scout Association of Nigeria, Benue State Council. Governor Ortom was also conferred with the Award of Messenger of Peace while the state deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abouno as well as Chief Judge, Justice Adam Onum were installed as Deputy Patron and state president respectively. The Governor lauded the humanitarian services rendered by Mama Boko Haram especially mediating for the release of those held captive by the deadly sect and prayed that she also facilitates the release of Miss Liah Sharibu, one of the Dapchi girls still being held captive by Boko Haram. He stated that children’s enrollment into the scout association would help in moulding them on security consciousness for a better society. The Governor promised to liaise with the scout to achieve the desired humanitarian services and for improved security awareness. In an address, Chief Scout of Nigeria, Very Reverend Fr. Mathias Okpara while congratulating the Governor and his wife among others for their investiture, appealed to Governor Ortom to raise the scout in the state to an enviable height. He said the activities of the scout center on youth development through character moulding and training, even as he prayed God to give him the enablement to give the association a facelift. Mama Boko Haram, who was honoured at the event with a presentation by wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom on behalf of the scout, expressed appreciation for the honour done her, describing it as the first since she was born.
