Mr. Dennis Akura was born on 25th May, 1964. He hails from Vandeikya Local Government Area.
He had early education at NKST Primary School, Naa, Mbagbera, 1972-77, where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate.
Mr. Akura attended Government College, Katsina-Ala, 1978-1983 and passed out with the General Certificate in Education (GCE) in 1983; and the College of Agriculture, Yandev in 1983 where he bagged the National Diploma, ND, in General Agriculture in 1984. He returned to Yandev in 1989 for the Higher National Diploma, HND, in Crop Production, which he obtained in 1990.
In 2002, Mr. Akura attended the University of Lagos, where he read and obtained a Diploma in Computer Science in the same year and later studied at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, 2003-2004, where he obtained the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management, PGDM, in 2004. In 2009 he got the Masters of Public Administration (MPA), 2009-2012, and Masters of Science Degree, Agro business Management (M.Sc), 2014-2016 at the same institution. He also attended the Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, USA, 2008 and acquired a Certificate in Farm Management Administration.
He rose through the ranks to become Principal Agriculture Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Makurdi, 2002-2011 after which he was Manager Crops, Benue State Swine and Crop Improvement Project.
In 2004, he was appointed Sole Administrator, Vandeikya Local Government Council.
Mr. Akura also held several other positions of responsibility. These include Speaker Students Representative Assembly; President, National Association of Crop Science Students; Secretary-General, Mbagbera National Development Association; Chairman, Ministry of Agriculture Staff Cooperative Forum and Focal Person, UNDP Programme, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Makurdi.
