Born on December 20, 1950 in Gawu in Suleja Local Government of Niger State, he began his Military career on January 4, 1971 when he enlisted as a reader officer at the Nigerian Defence Academy. On June 23 1973, he was granted regular combatant commission.
Among the courses he has attended are Anti-Tank Platoon commander's course (June 1974) Company Commander's Course in Pakistan, and Senior Staff Course, Jaji from September, 1981 to June, 1982.
Some of his command and staff appointments include the Commander 142 Infantry Battalion, Nigerian Army in 1978 and Staff Officer at the Military Secretary's Office Army Hqrs and in the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon from May - November, 1976.
Until his appointment as Military Governor of Benue State on July 21 1988, he was the Deputy Defence Adviser Nigerian Embassy in the Cameroun Republic.
Lt. Col. Makka who likes football and table tennis is married to Pauline Makka and they have children. He handed over to Gov. Moses Adasu on January 2, 1992.
