The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, says the APC leadership will take urgent steps to ensure that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom does not leave the party.
Comrade Oshiomole gave the assurance at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja after a meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom to resolve the issues between him and Senator George Akume.
He said the APC will explore all available reconciliatory measures to see that the Governor remains a member of the party.
The National Chairman said although the party was aware of legitimate issues of disagreement among leaders in several states, it has the capacity to resolve the cases in a way that everyone would be happy, describing Governor Ortom as a key member of the APC and an honourable man.
“In Benue we are going for a win win solution. Governor Ortom is not going anywhere. He is a very very prominent member of our party. We appreciate his leadership in Benue and we will do everything possible to help those who have issues to have those issues resolved”, he emphasized.
Comrade Oshiomole maintained that the disagreements in the party evidence that it was a free democratic party, saying the option of anybody leaving it to another party is not on the table.
Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to the National leadership of the APC for stepping in to resolve the issues between him and the leader of the party in the state.
He however said the matter was not yet resolved as discussions were still ongoing.
“They have spoken to him. They have spoken to me. Stakeholders are going to be spoken to and that is where I belong. We have not concluded the matter. It is an ongoing process.”
He restated his commitment to peace and development of Benue State as well as the country at large.
