Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has called on the new Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Barr. Richard Terlumun Tombuwua, to take the new assignment as a clarion call to offer a great service to the state, urging him not to dabble into politics.
Governor Alia made the call on Friday, while swearing in the new BSIEC Chairman at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.
Recall that the Benue State House of Assembly had on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, recommended the removal of the erstwhile Chairman of the Commission, John Chen, citing his lack of good Judgment as to which decision will appeal to the greater majority of the people, insisting that his actions in office fell short of public interest.
Performing the ceremony after Barr. Tombuwua was confirmed by the State Assembly, Governor Alia tasked the new boss of the State electoral umpire to uphold integrity, becoming the best for himself and State, and to ensure that his services are of tremendous success to all political parties in the state.
He described the new BSIEC boss as a square peg in a square hole, urging him to remain accountable and steadfast, distancing himself from self-interests.
The governor highlighted the new Chairman’s integrity, fairness and the many years of professionalism he has invested towards the good of the State, as some of the qualities the administration and the state require at this time.
He appreciated the Organized Labour , Unions, groups and the entire people of the state for honouring his call not to join the nationwide protest, assuring them that he will do more for the state.
Responding, the new BSIEC Chairman, Barr. Tombuwua promised to do everything within his powers and ability to succeed and make the state proud.
